What is Emotional Intelligence (“EI”)?
Emotions drive behaviour, leadership, and performance. Emotional Intelligence is the skill needed to assess and manage our own emotions and that of others, as well as the competency needed for motivation, empathy, and the ability to manage relationships. Emotional Quotient (“EQ”) has been found to be a great predictor of career success— even more so than Intelligence Quotient (“IQ”). Work by its nature requires technical competency and intellect; but the workplace itself is social, requiring interpersonal skill and thus, EI competency. What distinguishes top performers from the average is their high level of EI. The good news is that EI can be learned and developed to dramatically improve performance and your bottom line.
